Apologies for the ignorant rookie question, but--when using a mic preamp ( M-Audio Buddy in this case), it's really easy to overload the MR-8 inputs. On the other hand, the MR-8 needs a pretty hot input to make up for the weak preamp. I've been using both the input level and the mic preamp level at about 9:00. Is it better to put less output on the mic pre and open up the input trim on the MR-8? I guess the question is how to coax a little more headroom out of the MR-8 preamp.

Eric, I am using the same preamp with the MR8. I find that it is best to crank the Audio buddy and keep the trim on the MR8 as low as possible. Doing this seems to reduce the amount of noise. In fact, there are times when I don't have to turn up the trim at all on the MR8, I just get everything from the preamp. check it out and you will see what I mean.
