good...

I have a Yammie MiniDisc 8 and after trying numerous mic's, while trying to get an "upgrade sound"...I tried this pre-amp and it was a Huge change...actually the Presonus and a TC M300...was like cool..!!

anyway, i took the presonus back because I had a DPM3 on it's way (DPM3 gets alot of good press/reviews here)...

my 2cents..
the Presonus is nice and can be a great upgrade depending on your system.

i think the DPM3 is a bit quieter (Presonuss...had that idle...SHSSSHHHS sound, which can be gated out...)

and the DPM3 is 2channel...

I did notice a little difference in sound...so it's your choice!

GC has the little tube's on sale now for 99.99...good luck.

Are you saying the presonus sounded a little better? A little noisier but sounding...

Usually it's best to avoid any mic pre's where the "toob" stage can't
be bypassed.

I reallly hated my BlueTube on anything other than Bass, as a DI. The DMP3 is twenty times better. The BlueTube was dark and noisy.

I have a TubePre, and have been using it for about 4 or 5 months pretty regularily. I also have an FMR RNP which I got about 3 days ago, and a Behringer Ultragain 2200 that I've been renting for a month.

Compared to the Behringer, the TubePre is awesome! In otherwords, that Behringer thing is terrible... But right away, I think that's an important comparison, because the 2200 is MORE expensive than the TubePre by about $10. The difference in quality between those two is uncomparable.

I would say that although the TubePre does not match the quality of the RNP, it is probably closer to that than it is the the behringer. The TubePre definitely does not sounds as 'sweet' or as 'warm' however. It can have kind of a tinny or brittle tone, esspecially with really bright input.

The TUBE feature CAN be bypassed (or activated actually). It is on a second knob labelled "Drive", and while I wouldn't call the effect that it produces "warm", it doesn't sound bad on some stuff, and can be an interesting touch. Just doesn't really sound 'tube'...

The only other thing I'd say, is that when I bought it, I was using the preamps on my mixing board, and this thing made a world of difference to me! It greatly improved my recordings, and while I wouldn't want to go back after using the RNP for a few days now (which has been really awesome), it was really the best solution for me at the time. It was cheap, and it proved to me that it would be worthwhile to buy a more expensive one (esspecially when comparing it to the behringer).

Also, I've heard that it is better than the BlueTube (which seems to get consistantly bad reviews).

No, I meant it had a different sound than the DMp3. Not better. Company X, has a different sound too, for example. To me unit noise is not good, and it had unit noissssshhhh but...at $99 I would say a Presonus Mini tube~ is better than my stock Yammie mixer pre's.

being a newbie with the Pre-amps, so sorry! not much depth on the subject.

I am very pleased with the DMP3. (pumped my bass guitar up too!oh yea. in addition to vocals)

These posts here lead me to the DMP3 and a SPB1 mic..and now saving for a RNC.
The information credibility is high here, IMO.

happy gear searching.....

For some reason the phrase "sucks hamster cock" jumped into my head upon seeing your post... I wonder why?

Funny, that jives pretty closely to what popped in to mine . . . and at pretty much the exact same time, as well. We could be twins separated at birth, Fletcher.

I might normally try and think of some sort of retort . . . but that was actually pretty good, Jay. And pretty much spot on, too. You might actually be showing signs of an actual sense of humor and/or a brain to go with that quick wit of yours. Na, just kidding. Actually, your post was pretty retarded, as usual.

Cockrock, you are my hero. I don't have a sense of humor, that is exactly what I was thinking just now!

I like you, because of the way you make me feel when I come to this board for information on recording.

I actually just thought of something you are good for: scareing away newbies to preserve bandwidth for the more senior members. Keep up the good work bootlicker.

Thanks, CJ. And I really like you because of how smart you make me and others here feel.

I do what I can do to help out harmonycentral's and vsplanet's numbers. They need members, too, and most of these guys should fit right in.

Ya whats up with this shit that too many people are logged on right now. This BBS are sort the shit out is some manner. If someone wants to log on with a higher post count the little newbie shit get kicked off.

That's the way of keeping the uncool guys out. Oops. I wasn't supposed to say that. :D

You can actually simulate this preamp with pretty much any other pre. Simply place a standard television tuned to white noise (with the volume pretty much all the way up) right next to the source you are recording.

it would be nice to get a logical answer out of more than one of you. thanks for the great input. note my sarcasm. just because i'm a newbie doesn't mean i'm retarded. i got one good reply. i would appricate real world comparisons of some sort, and not hearing about hamster cocks.

All you did was type the word "opinions?" in a box in a browser, and you expect us to go on at length about a product that most of us have not used, mostly because we know better than to use it?

Was my opinion that Presonus's BlueTube sucked not good enough for you? Well I'm sorry. I gave you a real world comparison, the DMP3, and told you that the DMP3 blew the BlueTube away, even though it is a prosumer piece. That, along with all the other input (sarcastic or otherwise) should be enough warning for you to steer clear of Presonus.

If you're going to use this BBS to learn, you should probably start by being more humble and not expecting everyone to bow down at your very presence just becuase you took thirty seconds to create a username and password.

You're lucky you got any response at all to such a vaguely worded question.

In echoing cominginsecond's post, my exact experience with one is what I posted which, as you asked, was my opinion. Perhaps it was a bad one or perhaps it just sucks?
