what is your recorder? (an audio interface for a computer, a tape machine, a digital multi-track...?) also what do you want to plug in? a guitar, a microphone, a keyboard...?

yes. you can plug a Baggs DI straight into your recorder. Of course, you need the right connectors.

Possible?- Yes

Good idea?- No, it will sound shit.

If you have no real need for quality (ie. you're just recording to help with writing or whatever) then it would be fine, but if you want to play it back and get any kind of pleasure from listening to it then spend just a bit of money on a mic like an MXL 603 or a studio projects B1 (these are both around $100).

Of course if your recorder doesn't have mic inputs you'll need a standalone preamp with phantom power as well.

I was thinking on plugging it into one of those portastudios, but it sounds like it is best to mic it. Would I still need a preamp for the mic to get the signal high enough for the recorder?

Thanks,

Jutah

If there is no mic preamp in your portastudio then yes.

It has 2 mic inputs which means preamps but it doesn't look like it has phantom power so you'll need a seperate phantom power supply to use condensor mics like the 2 I mentioned earlier.
