Sounds good.
Bass has a nice tone.
Drums sounds great. What kind of polish are you wanting?
Guitar sounds right.
Played well.

Note: When you attach an mp3 look for the inline option and your song will be added to the post at the point where the cursor is positioned.
It saves a click for us lazy ones.

Good bass sound.

The guitars don't sound too bad. They could be just a bit brighter maybe?

Drums are kind of far back in the mix.

Songwise - both the bass and the guitars are trying to be the center of attention. Both parts are moving fast. It makes it difficult for the listener to take it in. I'd track a different bass part. One that is less intricate and let's the guitars be the center of attention.

Sounds good, sounds like it should with a few tweaks others are mentioning, I think song arrangement wise, I would think about having some autonomy of the parts. drums in particular. Even in emo and postrock, the drums playing the exact syncopation of the melody is a bit distracting. The commenter above suggested simplifying the bass, and that could help, but I think a better play would be having the drums play a straighter beat once it comes off the toms (like around 00:46). That would give it more depth. That beat works on the toms but put the snare on the two and four when it kicks in.

I'd be proud of that, Jake.
It is lively, and interesting.
It is short though, and I see it as establishing a theme for a longer song.
May after it, come in with some Queen style group vocals, fantastic guitar solo, then hit us with the theme again. It could go to 15-20 mins.

Dude - that is strong! Big, fat, huge sounding. Love that big, distinct bass sound. Share how you got that bass sound?

Very nice recording!

Yes I think I know what you mean, sounds a bit messy in places. I've recorded parts again, but rather, taken away some of the guitar rather than bass. Also tried to bring the drums forward, maybe too much though.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I can't easily change the drums, these were just some unused parts that I decided to try and record something to. If it doesn't work, I'll just think of something else.

Thanks, I'm not sure my friend and I are capable of Queen style group vocals though.

Thank you. It's a Fender precision bass, EQ pedal, DS-1 with a tiny bit of distortion, and then chorus pedal.

Yeah "de-cluttering" the guitar worked better than I thought it would. It sounds good. The drums sound better at this level. They may even be a bit loud - maybe set them somewhere in between the first mix's level and this level.

Someone else mentioned simplifying the drums. I know you said that was difficult, but it's still a good idea. I wanted to call that out.

Anyway, it sounds much better.

Well not difficult, I'll probably just leave it. If I rented out a room and mic'd it up again, I probably won't be re-recording this. Thank you for the feedback though, I think I perhaps won't upload this.

I think what they're saying is that you can cut out some hits here and there. Editing drums is possible. If you don't want to do that or know how to do that, it's fine. That was the suggestion though, I believe.

Very cool, great vibe. I love this genre…big Explosions in the Sky fan here. I like the 2nd mix more as well.

For variety sake (since it’s basically 2 chords and you can’t easily re-record drums) maybe just drop the drums out for a little section towards the late mid section, with some quiet clean guitars…then boom, back with big guitars and drums to finish it off!

Would love to hear some vocals in this too! Cool tune.

I thought they were suggesting changing the drum track, if not, then I don't really want to be editing it too much because I don't think I could make it sound good. Given that it was just a random unused part, I'm not too bothered about recording it again. I wasn't that sure on it to begin with, hence why I posted it here.

Edit: It's not even unused, actually. It's part of another thing I recorded 7 years ago and I just rediscovered a project with those 2 drum parts.
