Popscreens? How mic specific do they need to be?

Hello,
I'm a new to recording and I'm wondering how specific or exactly does the fit for a popscreen for a specific mic have to be?

I have a AKG1000e and Shure SM59, does anyone have suggestions for a popscreen I could use while recording inside and mainly out doors?

I myself have not found much difference between them. In fact, my favorite is still a set of my darling's nylons on a coathanger. I use a metal one for recording others, as the cooties can be rinsed off easily. I find the metal ones not being as efficient for esses as the cloth ones, but that can be dealt with in other ways.
 
I use a couple of the very basic cloth mesh filters. I have a large 7.5" filter and a smaller, 6" filter. The larger one has double layer mesh (it's on both sides of the rings with a space between them)..and the smaller one is a single layer mesh.

They are ceiling mounted (so is the mic "stand"...more like an "arm") in the one spot where I basically do all my vocals. Each filter is on it's own mount so I can use either one in front of the mic or both, depending on the preamp and overall tone I'm getting. With some preamps I want to attenuate the high-end a bit more or less...etc.
I can also put one pop in front and the other in back of the mic, for my dual-capsule vocal mic, which can help take out any edginess reflecting into the back of the capsule if I'm running it in some other position instead of cardioid.

Anyway...most any pop filter(s) will work...and you don't really need a special filter for a particular mic. You can get a bit fancier with the setup like I've done...but basically, stick a pop filter about 6"-12" in front of the mic and you're good to go.
The smaller filter make it easier to see beyond the mic if you sing close to the filter (like when you are looking at a lyric sheet on a stand, or other band members)....but the larger filters help keep the wind and spit off the mics a lot better.

Are you talking pop screen or are you talking a windsock/screen thing?

If the former, what they said ^^^^

If the latter, it needs to snuggly fit the mic or wind will blow it around and you'll get the noise of the sock scraping against the metal of the capsule...

You should be able to get them for specific mics - that would be your best bet, given your two mics don't really look like each other...
 
I have a few different ones, everything from the one I made from a pair of nylons (not mine) and an embroidery hoop to several bought ones. Single cloth, double cloth, etc. They all work well. I did a few weeks ago buy one of these from Karma, and it seems to work well. It give you the option of mesh and cloth or the option of mesh or cloth. That way you can see what works best for you.

I did not see the out doors bit, for out doors you need a foam wind sock as minimum.

Outdoor popscreen? Wonder if he is speaking at an occupy deal. I'm just gonna not say anything about that.....
 
Thanks to everyone so far for your advice. Outdoors is the main place I'm recording. I'll be traveling through some remote islands this winter and wind will be a big factor.

I have an Electro voice 635a that I've equipped rather nicely with a small standard pop screen, and also an additional furry type pop screen if needed to further block wind.

I'm struggling to find screens that would fit these two rather odd shaped microphones that I've mentioned, and will block the wind when recording outside as best as possible.

Now I know why perople walk up to the pop screen ready to do the vocal..... take a deep breath in ..... then a sniff ..... and say, "what the f#%k is that :eek:",
