I'm trying to back up my cassette tapes to digital files using a PlusDeckConverter built into my PC (a Compaq running Vista) and its working fine except lots of the tracks have a permanent low-level popping sound which is incredibly distracting. I saw someone posted a similar thread elsewhere on the forum but as I'm using a very different recording method I wondered if anyone could help me?

I'm guessing no-one much has ever seen one of these devices, let alone used them. They appear cheap and so that could be the core of the problem. I had a look around but couldn't find any info on how they (a) converted the sound to digital and (b) hooked into the PC. Most of the articles are in geek/gadget mags, not audio mags.

Not much help I know.

If was converting cassettes, I wouldn't be doing it that way, that's for sure.

Maybe someone else will happen along who knows more...
