I've heard home made ones work just as well as ones that are overpriced at guitar center? Is this true?

As long as you use similar materials how different can they be? A metal coat hanger with panty hose wrapped around it will work.

Pretty simple concept, really.

On the other hand, you can get a good one for $13 at MF.

Personally, I'd rather spend the $13 than mess around bending a coat hanger and buying pantyhose.

I agree...while I am a DIY'r at heart, the pop filter thing just gave me fits while trying to make it look good...it did work! Use two layers of nylon stocking material...you'll get this when you slip the leg over your hoop. It didn't look pretty but I'll never forget...I had an all female trio come out to do some stuff. I broke the home made pop filter out because it was rather over-size and one of the gals said it was down right nasty to think that they were so close to someone's old pantyhose.

I too have (HAD) one of the cheap CAD units...they'll get the job done and look way better than what I was able to make. I've got a couple that tend to sag a little. The goose necks aren't always strong enought to hold the big end up.

yea i bought one a while back from a music store... works great, looks great, but like punkin said, the gooseneck began to sag a little over time...

Hey...I've still got to try this but, I read in one of the reviews, some guy with the same sagging issue, unscrewed the end inserted a piece of coat hangar wire (cut to length) into the hollow goose neck tube and reassembled it. His report is that it works much better now.

Just a thought for those with saggy necks. :D
