hmm.. just wondering...

what do they mean by flash-memory?
i know it is upgradable...and does that mean it can also upgrade the amp models? like maybe in the future, they want to add an amp and it can exchange from one of the amp models in the pod...

haha does this make sense? lol

thanks~

The earlier POD could be upgraded by swapping the PROM chip. The new POD uses a flashable PROM that can have its software overwritten. So instead of opening it up, popping out the old chi, and putting in a new one, you transfer the data to it, probably via USB, and overwrite the old data.

The upgrades might contain new models and/or effects, improvements to existing models and/or effects, bug fixes, new functionality...

wow...

thats sweet....

than does that mean there is no need to replace the pod xt in the future??.... i mean of course it could be replaced later on but i guess for now, the flash memory is the way to "replace" the olds on the xt...

thanks anyhow!!

Ha ha... I'm sure in about two or three years they'll have the POD XL Superba Perfecto Magnifico 3.0 that will be "light years ahead" of the POD XT in capability...

... but at least bug fixes and tweaks will be much easier to deal with.,..

They've already done two updates... one added the USB recording functionality, and the other upgraded the system to fix a few bugs. There's another upgrade coming soon. I can't tell how soon, but it seems from the way things are going it should be in the next few weeks. This upgrade will:
1) let the Pod xt do "re-amping" via the USB connection (recording dry guitar and processed guitar, then later letting you run the dry guitar track back through the Pod to find the sound you want, all over USB),
2) makes the Pod xt compatible with the GuitarPort Online service
3) includes a bunch of new EQ settings for using the Pod xt live,
4) MIGHT include some changes to the amp models, though it's been impossible to really confirm this...
