i see i could get a pod 2.0 used off of ebay quite cheap. i am wondering if the xt is worth the extra cost.....specifically the amp emulator for recording direct tracks. what pod sounds the best for heavy distortion for metal music??

If you are using guitars with humbuckers, then the XT is the way to go (works well with single coils too). The older PODs worked well with single coils, but the problem with humbuckers wasn't fixed until the XT. I have both versions and use them for doing quick recordings when I need to go direct.

Neither one is as good as direct mic-ing my amps, but when you want to get something done with minimal setup, space, or noise (like the wife is asleep), then PODs are great.

What does that mean?

i use emg 81's.

how do the distortion patches sound from the xt to the 2.0? are they the same sounding or is there a difference? does the xt sound better than the 2.0 overall? what can the xt do that the 2.0 cant? im still trying to justify the $200.00 difference in price between the 2 units.

sonic-what is the "problem" you refer to that the 2.0 has with humbuckers????? does anyone else out there that owns the 2.0 have such a problem??

Here's a thread where I had the problem and you can see some of the responses.

The problem I had/have with the older POD and humbuckers is that they sound muddy when playing chords if you are using distortion. On the XT the problem has been fixed.

As far as settings, the XT and POD 2.0 are two different approaches. The 2.0 has a limited number of tweaks that you can do, while the XT has a lot more control over the settings. I recommend going to this link and downloading the manuals for both of them.

This will give you a better basis of comparison than I could in a post. I hope that this helps.
