If any of you lot used the Ebow in any of your stuff, or have any opinion on it, I'd love to hear. I'm thinking of getting one to try and get some different background textural sounds in some songs we are working on.

Is it as good as the maketing schpiel would have me believe ?

Hi there,

In fact, ebows are a little bit hard to find in stores. They
have this website called www.ebow.com where you can
find a list of retailers, this would help. Don´t forget to buy
a cool delay fx for your guitar to work with it, it will make
real cool sounds.

Cool toy! I've had one for about 2 years .You can get some very cool sounds .Its one of the things I go for when I'm looking for something different..

Yeah; I love mine. I wouldn't say I use it all that much but when I'm bored or looking for some inspiration it's one of those tools that makes you want to play/experiemnt with.

Though it's not what you asked for as a reply go to the links for opions and reviews:

I noticed there was an attachment in one of those.

Phil Keagy,

Uses one on alot of his instrumental stuff. If you can borrow one of his CD's he's the master withit.

Micheal Manrig a bass player that does some fusion type of stuff on Windham Hill also uses them with great results.

Our guitarist digs ebo, we've put down a couple tracks with it...

Yeah, Keaggy's the ebow king. None of us would know what we were doing with it if it wasn't for him. You'll get best results using humbucker pickups, and you'll want to play on the front one 90% of the time. Also, a delay set to around 400 miliseconds and some nice chorusing. Sometimes flanging sounds good too. I'll post some stuff I recorded eons ago (around 15 years ago with an old Teac 4-track real to real) with one. It's a jazzy sort of Pat Methenyish piece. I'll just put the ending two or so minutes on here for ya. The ebow kicks in after about 15 seconds and stays throughout the rest of the tune. It's got the chorus and delay in it I talked about. And toward the end I did something I wouldn't normally do and that's to distort it. Usually that sounds horrible (think Big Country--Yikes!) but in this case it seemed to fit.

I should point out that you have to "left" click and choose to "save to disc" with this file. It's the only way the server will let you download it. You can't right click and "save target as" or "play from it's location" either one.

Is that how they got that cool Bagpippy rif to sound like that cool.

You should hear Keaggy do "his" bagpipe immitation. He does a simulated bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace on his Electric Guitar instructional video that's an absolute jaw-dropper! Sometimes I'd swear that little monkey's got three hands.
