I'm mainly a metal guy, but I have a closet love for good electronic music.

I've been using MIDI pretty extensively for a while now, and I'm looking to expand my virtual instrument collection some.

I've been pretty content so far using Logic Pro 7's instruments, Reason 3.0, Reaktor 5, BFD, and an Roland XV5050's patches and then tweeking them to my liking. I have some ideas for some new soft synths, but I'm kind of curious to see what you guys are using and like a lot.

Price range really isn't much of a factor, anywhere up to like $800 (compatable with either Logic Pro 7 or Pro Tools 6.9).

For a start, you must be on Mac to be using Logic and I'm a PC loyalist, but as far as it goes I've used Reaktor and find Absynth to be MUCH more useful and flexible from the NI stable.

Also, BFD is a memory p-i-g hog and nothing else as far as I'm concerned. SIR 1010 is the current version of a freeware convolution reverb and will tailor the sound of any drum kit to the track rather than having to build the track around the drum sounds. But that's just my humble opinion.

You have found KVR Audio right? They have all plug-ins under one umbrella, including user reviews of both big commercial soft synths and FX and small free soft synths. And everything in between...

Z3ta or Virsyn Cube are pretty cool.

All the NI stuff (FM7, Pro 53)

Get a VST to Au wrapper also since there will probably be alot more VST stuff

Yes, I'm mostly a Mac guy. BFD lives on another hardrive. Thanks for the link, I forgot about that site.
