I'm currently burning with a Sony drive, and while I've had no returns from replication companies on any of my clients, I also don't have any means to error check the media like with Plextools.

So I'm looking into getting a Plextor drive to add to the mix. Unless there is something better I should be investing in?

Can someone school me on this, please.

Plextor seems to be the go-to drive for those authorative on the subject. I like the TDK VeloCD drives myself, but I'd never claim that either one was better or worse. You probably coudn't go wrong with either one.

More to the point, I think, is that if you have not had a problem with your Sony, then what's the point? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

Well, I suppose you're correct, Glen. I guess in the attempt to gain more clients for my small but growing business, I would like to be able to have some grasp on the BLER specs via a prog like Plextools. I want to make sure there's no problems.

I guess maybe it's just a preventative measure? :(

Yeah pretty much. Plextor has Plextools.

I've got a plextor. the one that does error checking. it rocks. I compared it to my sony drive (which is probably 6 years old) and the plextor burned with way fewer errors. that's sort of the catch-22 with the plextor. you can do error checking, but the drive burns so well you probably wont have any c2's anyway.

Plextor rocks - Keep in mind though, that only select drives will run the "full" PlexTools package - To wit, the PlexWriter Premium and the 716-A DVD writer.

My Sony drive was brand new last year at this time. I've had zero problems with it. I won't actually replace it, I'll just add the plextor to the mix...

In your opinion, John. Is it worth it, just to use PlexTools?

Absolutely. Worth more than the drive itself every single time I use it.

Ok, thanks. I'll definitely pick one up.

Do you recomend one over the other? I definitely want to run the full PlexTools.

As long as it's a Premium or a 716 (if you need to write DVD's at all), you should be fine.

I'll get the premium. My Sony Drive is a DVD Dual-Layer Writer. No need for another.

Thanks.
