Nevermind those one-star-stalkers. You got awsome playing skill and voice. Did you record this by the way? If I remember correctly, you said that you had your last song recorded professionally.
Anyways, besides the clippings here and there, this is totally pro performance and mix.

Thanks. Yes I recorded this. The studio recording I posted was only as a reference to the guitar sound that I'm trying to get on my Tascam 788. I've been working for about 6 weeks now trying to get the 7 string under control. The added low end makes it a VERY difficult instrument to record with clarity. The vocals took a quantum leap the minute I got my hands on a quality mic (a Studio Projects B3).

if you are having hard time with the low end not being clear enough, you can always try cuting everything below 80hz-100hz. It has always worked for me.
Wow, a B3?? That sounds very good, this is the first time I heard that mic in action. I own a C1, and I still haven't gotten any great result out of it yet....sigh What kind of reverb and other effects did you use on your vocal? I really dig how it sounds(of course your voice plays a major role there, too)

I'm only using the internal effects in the Tascam 788. The B3 runs through an Audio Buddy Preamp and wih the Tascam, I've added a 6DB pad and a just touch of reverb. Other than that it's pretty much natural.A1A2 said:

just keep on posting this stuff Jim. don't worry about the one star bandit. I love that guitar. I could listen to this stuff all day....and the recording is very good. B3 huh? It works well for you I'd say. Good purchase. Are you gonna do a full CD? I'd probably buy it from you.

What I'm working on now is my second CD. I'm hoping to do all the recording at home and then use commercial studios for mixing and mastering. I feel like I'm getting really close to having the sounds at the level that I need.
A lot of what I listen to is completely unrelated to what I play. I listen to a huge amount of Brazillian music, both traditional bossa nova and contemporary jazz. The musicians who've had a stong influence on me though are Mose Allison, Tuck and Patti, Bobby Scott, Josh White Sr. and a whole lot of guitar plays. Mostly what I do though is just something that evolved over a very long period of time. I'm not young by anyone's definition and I've been playing for 40 years.
