Smooth acoustic sound. Vocals very strong. The backing instruments mesh well to create a lush sound.
Yes, you should get live drums going. Drum machines are a poor replacement for the real thing.
It's a little late in production for this, but you may want a change of chord structure at some point in the verse. For example, when the words "the sun's gone..." etc. come, I'd like to hear a new chord structure.
The chorus is very strong. The one-note melody accentuates the poignant lyrics there. One suggestion for the chorus: the rhythm section should be "louder". It would sound good if the chorus were more climactic. For example, you could add some distorted electric chords.
It's a very good sound. With a few tweaks, it could be on any folk music station.

You've posted this before haven't you?
I really like it except for the drum machine - it's too mechanical almost like the casio in Da Da Da by Trio.
Is this a revision?
The harmonies are nice - remind me of Cosmic Rough Riders.
