Hi -

This is my first post on this site and I am glad there is a "Newbie" section. I have been playing guitar for 20+ years and have always wanted to do some recordings, but more for fun and as a hobbyist rather than for a chance to make it big.

A few months ago I bought the Digidesign 11 Rack, both for an effects processor and for Pro Tools capability. Well, Pro Tools has become a nightmarish challenge. I am able to record guitar tracks, but that's about it. A few months ago I went out and bought EZDrummer in the hopes of adding drums. I thought it would be as simple as loading a drum track preset I liked into a PT session. Well, I still haven't figured out how to do that.

I went to Guitar Center and many bookstores and perused Pro Tools books, but I think flying the space shuttle would be easier. All these "ins and outs', "busses", etc. can be very intimidating. The books don't seem to be for the "dummy", but seem to be for someone who has a grasp of the terminology and technology. For the past week, I have been trying to hook up my X3 (bean) to either my 11 Rack or my MBox2 Mini, but no luck. No sound nor any evidence that its being recorded. I even ordered a course from Groove3 but it didn't really help me that much.

I need some advice on where to actually start the process to understand Pro Tools LE 8. I realize it's not a program for beginners, but I would have thought that after several months of fooling around I would have had at least a basic, simple understanding by now. Any advice on a path to getting there would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

I feel your pain...... Did you go to the pro tool section of this forum for advice?

I'm not a Pro Tools user or even a PC software DAW user, but what I'd probably be doing is asking a bunch of highly specific questions over in the Pro Tools forum.

Start simple, but keep them absolutely specific to some particular task you're trying to achieve.

There will be people on this board who've worked this out, so it's a matter of finding them and tapping into their heads.

Slowly it should all come into focus - it can be overwhelming at the start/

Good luck. :D

I can help you out with PT. Yes, just head on over to the PT forum and blast away. :P

I might even be able to help with EZDrummer. I think what you need is an instrument track with the EZDrummer plug-in on it. Then, within the plug-in, find the 'preset' you want and drag it onto (into) the track in the edit window. I think this is how it's done, if I remember correctly.
