Hi , can someone please help?

I am trying to add a loop from DR REX in Reason, to my midi track in Pro Tools.
In DR REX I hit preview and the loop plays, but when I want to “copy to track” it just wont do it… The help menu said something about using the sequencer, but its so unclear. Another way to do it is to save the loop as an audio file, but that option is not highlighted in the Edit - "pull down menu". The only option highlighted is "export to midi", tried that but didnt work.

hi,

in the sequencer window, make sure you have the left/right markers set where you need them since it will only place the Rex between them. Once the markers are set, press "to track" You may have done this already, but it is a common mistake. :)

Adam,
Thanks for your time and effort. I went to the sequencer @ the bottom of Reason, and theres only 1 marker...what am i missing? if i do this correctly , then the rex loop would actually graphically be shifted into the sequencer? (after i hit "to track").. Do i need the protool track play in the background as i do this? does the record need to be on in the sequencer in Reason? can you please advise?

hi,

you should have a total of 4 markers. A place marker (P), a song end marker (E) and a left and right one (L, R) . it is where these left and right markers are placed that will determine where you rex loop will go. You are not able to export the loop as an audio file until you get the rex loop into the sequencer window.
I'm not familiar with the pro tools environment. My advice would be to run reason alone (without pro tools open), then make sure it is not sync'ed or anything. Restart reason and try again. Sometimes the loop markers get lost, you may have to scroll around the sequencer to find them.

Yeah, he problem seems to be with your markers, especially since you said that you see only one. The Dr Rex needs the marker in order to know where to place it within the sequencer.

Trizza,

but what if i cant find the markers? seems like i only have 1, or one on top of another.. maybe its the version that i have, i am not sure. but it came with my pro-tools... are there suppose to be four visual markers on the sequencer??

thanks.

hi,

that may be your problem, you don't have a 'full' version of reason. The version you got with pro tools may have some limitations that you don't know about, such as using the sequencer. Are you sure it's not a demo or something??

Adam,

thanks again. Yeah this may be the problem. The version that came with my oroginal pro-tools& M-box package is "Reason Adapted". So i dont know if the loop features are enabled.. bummer....

If you can run Reason Adapted as a stand-alone application --- meaning without being ReWired to protools (ick) --- try doing the procedures suggested above again.

You may find the markers in Reason Adapted pop out when you run it on it's own...
