Please help with mix! Bass sounds boomy!

Hey everyone,

I just moved into a new place a few months ago and am finally getting some studio things under way. I've never had too many problems with bass until this room. Now the bass sounds boomy and indistinct to me.

I'd really appreciate if I could get opinions on what might fix it. There are two versions of this little bit. One was done with a real bass, recorded direct with an Amplitube plug-in on a bass setting. The other is a sampled P-bass sound played via keyboard.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

The bass is quite a bit lower in the mix on the second one - it needs to come up, and I'd bring the level of the first one down just a bit. It would make a comparison a lot easier.
