Thanks guys!
I'm still battling the same problem though...I do like the idea of small diaphragm, but one of my main purposes is recording a single cello on a mono mic.
Well let me better explain:
I'm obviously not an expert at this stuff, but I spent last summer recording in my uncle's studio, and I recorded 4 times over a single cello into a Neumann TLM-103. I used no preamp, except for the ones in the digi 002, and it sounded better that way. I am really recording hard rock cello, and I need to do it the best way.
I promise that this is not a promotion, I just need all the help I can get.
There are clips here:
www.breakofreality.com. Click on media, then sound clips. I would recommend listening to wsnzbz, because that exploits the mic more than the others.
AND if you have any immediate recording suggestions, please voice them! I am going to get the next one professionally mastered, so I am looking for more recording process suggestions if you have some.
I think I did a good job for doing everything myself for the first time ever seeing pro tools or as a good a mic as the neumann TLM 103.
So, I guess, I need to know what I should get mic-wise to be able to record an even better album next year. I am going to be recording all the cello parts separately just like I did last time, and the drums are going to be done in a real studio this time, not on v-drums.
I hope this helps you guys to see where I am coming from...This is a very difficult thing for me, since I am doing something so unheard of. I am also reading completely opposite reviews EVERYWHERE about EVERYTHING and I am so confused.
As far as recording classical string quartet, that's just an additional thing that doesnt matter to me nearly as much. That is why I am so unsure about the small diaphram. I might get a good pair later on, but as for now, I need a good solution for recording my next 4 cello hard rock album.
I hope you guys can continue to help me as much as you have been. This forum is really saving me, and I really do appreciate any help you can give me!
