why does my hifi only playback two of the tracks from my port studio one.

please explain in an uncomplicated manner.THNX

chances are the other 2 or more are on opposite side of tape.
a hi-fi will only play one side.

Your port studio one is a 4 track recorder which means unlike regular stereo tape recorders, it records all 4 tracks in the same direction. Your hifi's playback uses only 2 tracks(stereo) in the same direction. To get your recording to playback on regular stereo tapedecks you need to mix down the 4 track to stereo. You do this by recording the line out of the port studio one into a stereo tape recorder.

so i connect the porat one to the hifi, were do i put thet tape when im recording the hi-fi or the porta one?

dew try this method.
1. take a stereo line out from porta into stereo line in of a cassette deck
(or some folks use a stereo high quality vhs hi fi or even a mini disc
recorder, or now there are consumer dvd/cd recorders on the market).
2. put a blank cassette in the cassette deck then start it recording.
now hit PLAY on the porta. the song mix should come out of the porta and be recorded on the cassette deck. you can plug phones into the cassette deck before and do a trial run to make sure.
now rewind on the cassette deck to song start and hit play on the cassette deck and you should hear your mix on the cassette deck.
now just hook up the cass dek to your regular home stereo.
i hope this is what you wanted.
peace.
