Please help me treat my closet

I want to empty out my closet to make it a vocal booth. The dimensions are roughly 5' 8'' x 6' 5'' x 7' 10'' (LxWxH).

I didn't want to just run out and buy foam to slap all over the walls, so I am asking for your advice and suggestions. I am on a limited budget, meaning I don't plan on spending more than $200-$300. I have a home studio and am your typical bedroom producer. Vocals are my main focus (Hip-Hop/R&B) and I rarely (if ever) record any instruments besides a guitar.

I guess a good place to start would be what kind of foam? Do I need to build anything or will foam do? Or should I just go with a completely different approach.

Use the search function and search 703. Foam is a fire hazard and it doesn't do anything but suck all of the highs from your room/booth. 'Nuff said.

If you want to deaden the room, maybe some 2" thick absorber panels with 703 will help. 4" thick absorbs lower (bass) frequencies but if it's for vocals I'm not sure that's necessary.

I wouldn't cover every square inch but probably kind of close. If you can lay down some kind of hard surface like plywood on the floor, that might help give you a more lively recording but also free from crappy room reflections.

2" absorber panels are pretty easy to make yourself if you can get 703 rigid fiberglass somewhere.

With regard to the panels in the links above, could I just buy a few and box off the closet with them? What about something such as what realtraps offer?

If you are going to buy prefab, realtraps are the way to go. If you feel like making them yourself, search 703 panels. I believe that realtraps offer better performance than homemade traps. (Ethan?)
