I have a Tascam DP-01 8 track digital hard drive recorder. I recorded a song using 5 tracks. I exported each of the 5 tracks to my laptop as five 16bit mono wav files. Now I would like to play back those 5 tracks simultaneously in such a way that each track is on its own channel so it can be routed out of my laptop into a analog mixer (one track per channel - leaving the laptop simultaneously). Is this possible? Is the an interface w/software that would allow me to do this? Can I go from laptop via USB or PCMCIA type II card bus to a converter that will allow me to play back each track simultaneously on its own analog out? Please help!!!!!

8 individual outs from the computer... no, I don't know of any interface that can do that. At least not simultaneously. My question is... why would you want to do that. You seem to want to send tracks out of the computer so you can mix them in an analog mixer. Why not just mix them *in* the computer?

you can get 8 outs from the computer...just look at some of the firewire interfaces (like those from M-Audio). The Delta 1010 has 8 analog outs. I don't believe there is any USB devices that have that many outs though.

But like Nick says, I wouldn't suggest doing it that way. If you have it digital, keep it all digital...unless there is some amazing sounding piece of gear you own that will make your audio sound better. Otherwise you're probably going to send it back into the computer again anyway to make a CD, right?

If you just like the idea of mixing on an analog board (giving you that old school feeling)...look at getting a control surface. Sort of the same idea.

i would stay away from firewire usb mess. I here of folks having latenancy trouble.. I would reccomend the RME multiface II with the pcmcia(or what ever). I has the potiential of 16 channels of I/O. I have it with the pci card and it's rock solid. About 900.00 bucks though.

I do have mine set up so I can export all the tracks simontainusly on their own channal, I use the Delta 1010lt (like stated before) and it does make some editing easyer, but since your using a laptop, I believe your SOL, so, my advise is, get some VST instroments for whatever you want to do and just do it all on your comp.

hope this helps
