ok - here's the tale - I think it is serious - my hp 9110i cd writer ( it's a pretty new system) didn't manage to record an audio cd, altho it said it did. I did a self-run test from the tool box and it said (twice) that the ASPI was missing or corrupted. I have scoured the manual and the web site but cannot find anything on ASPI. I then had the idea of uninstalling and reinstalling, but what I did was go to system/device manager and removed the hardware from the list (a bit reckless I think with hindsight). Now - I can't add it again. There are only 3 names in the add hardware list - and hp isn't one of them. even if I choose hp from the ? list - there are only monitors listed. If I click "have Disk" - it won't acknowledge the cd rom in the other drive and I don't remember getting a floppy... I really would appreciate ANY ideas on this, as I think I might have messed up the whole thing... Cheers :( Malgo...

You removed the CD-ROM from device manager?

If so, you shouldn't have to do anything. Just reboot. This is an internal burner correct?

Also, what burning software are you using? Make sure it's the latest version.

Your main problem is buying an hp burner they are poor quality, as far as internal burners go, you should have gone with acer, or sony

I've had a HP burner for more than half a year, and no problems.

acer ? ? ? anyways.. i know that hp has a class action lawsuit pending litigation because of their drives failing prematurely , but im not sure if it was ASPI related.. contact their customer support and get the details..

acer? ? ? :)

Sounds like maybe the driver is corrupt. Have you tried the HP site yet for later drivers than what you have?

Well thanks - panic over anyway - you know I took this whole system back once already - I didn't want to have to do it all over again - anyway I rebooted and yes it's back in device manager - I didn't know that's all you have to do for an internal drive. I also downloaded the latest drives from the site -it seems to be working now, whatever it was -it still says the aspi is missing or corrupt but it is recording both audio and data. What is aspi anyway? Can't find a reference on it anywhere. Thanks for your help once again. regards - Malgo. (Acer? :))
