I've never really been able to find a detailed description of all the parts of a deck. Please check me to see if my understanding is corect.
In lower end decks, one motor drives all moving parts, but in higher end decks, each spool or moving part has it's own motor.
Right or Wrong?
The capstan is a metal "arm" that actually engages the tape (be it the "gears" in a cassette or the tape itself on an R2R.)
Right or wrong?
The pinch roller is a rubber wheel that puts pressure on the tape to keep it tight against the capstan.
Right or wrong?
The capstan belt is what causes the capstan to turn, in turn driving the tape through the transport system.
Right or wrong?
The capstan, pinch roller, capstan belt/motor, are collectively reffered to as the transport system?
Right or wrong?
Ok, I know I've asked a lot, and I know it's basic. But I want to know how my gear works, not just how to work my gear. Thank you for all you have done to help.
