Just heard Radio.

I am but a humble home recorder so I can't really give a lot of technical feedback. But I can say that it's one of the best recordings I have heard over my PC speakers. That includes the song structure / balance / mix / tone / everything.

The vocals are fantastic - and that is the first thing the average listener (including myself) will focus in on and they blew me away.

You sound like you really enjoy recording and mixing yourself and you're doing a great job (as I said before). Keep up the good work.

There's a lot of pro's on this BB that can give you the technical advice (which I'm not privy to, but let me justy say = "Radio" is ready for "radio" don't doubt it for a second...

MY FIRST IMPRESSION:

When the first hihat hit, I thought it was a sound from in the room; I was wearing headphones at the time. Startling. I need to know: for stereo imaging on that hihat did you just use reverb, , just panning or phase shifting? Or all of the above? I NEED TO KNOW!

I like.

I think there may be a tiny bit of reverb on the OH mics, and a stereo expander plugin. The HH is being picked up by the 57 on the snare batter as well. I don't think we played with the phase on the OH mics.

The initial hi-hat hits would be strictly through the overheads. The snare is gated so that only when it opens is there bleed into it from the hh. If I remember, the OH's were setup in an X/Y configuration and hard panned in the mix. I think what you're really hearing is the difference between the 'lo-fi' intro and the more 'hi-fi' beginning of the song proper.
