I was specific about my hate. It wasn't directed at an entire genre, it was directed towards one single band. I apologize if you somehow took it as an attack on you.

But from the first post, I wasn't upset at all, I was joking around. Obviously, everyone has their own tastes. It doesn't bother me at all that you don't like my music, or don't like The Beatles. There's tons of music I don't like (most of it probably).

I do think it's odd, though, how many people don't like The Beatles.I fucking hate those people! They seem to relish in it. (You don't like mayonnaise, but do you like relish?)

I think it's odd how many people still like the Beatles. I'm pretty convinced that people still like them because they think they're supposed to - like Jimi Hendrix. That and the fact that cutesy non-threatening boy bands seem to never go out of style. But I don't hate anyone for what they like, unless it's rap or death metal. And I'll admit that I do casually like a few of the early Beatles songs, before they got all pretentious and trippy.

And no, I don't like relish either. I'm not big on any condiments. I like mustard, and hot sauce. That's about it.
 
Knowing Greg, I can see why he wouldn't like this at all. It's just not his thing. But if he has anything positive to say about your performance or mixing, take it. He's able to give the best critiques here while putting aside his musical taste.

Personally, I think this is fantastic. Definitely Beatle-ish, which I love. Sounds really good, too. I'm not even sure if it needs drums, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. You've got an awesome voice., man. I'm jealous. :cool:
 
Thanks Rami. Yeah back on track, I'd like to hear it with drums, but it certainly works without them. I loves me some drums, but I really didn't even miss them on this song.
 
I LOATHE mayonnaise & aoli for that matter), I like relish, I prefer chilli sauce (Hot & very hot - sometimes scorchingly hot).
I don't mind The Beatles, (can't stand the mawkish balladry though), I preferred the Rolling Stones but that faded after Mick Taylor fell over.
I don't like country as a style of music, some country artists repel me, but I do like some country songs. Possibly anough to fill a CD/ There's one about being from Texas taht appeals to me as well as a small handful of Kinky Friedman's stuff.
The song seems to have been recorded pretty well - culd use a bit of high end sparkle as well as drums.

The topic is the current mix so I shan't offer any more than that it does have a Beatlishness or maybe a Rutlishness. Strikes me as a little bit TV theme songish.

The Beatles are sort of genre, I think. From Queen to Jellyfish to Rutles to a million other bands, in varying degrees. I hear The Beatles in all kinds of bands and artists now, even if the influence isn't obvious.

Thanks Rami. I'm pretty insecure about my voice (kind of why I don't play out), so I appreciate that a lot.

I agree that often this form of communication can be difficult.

But, yeah that was a joke (laced with a fair amount of truth!) ;)

The thing that I find a bit disturbing in this thread, is that it isn't the opinions of others that should really be of importance in the first place. If you love what you do, and are whole-hardheartedly devoted to what you love, then you have already created something worthy for yourself. If any criticism by someone who says you have created something that sounds 'like' your influences molded you into, whether they hate them or not, should be taken as a compliment.

Music is always subject to opinion. Good or bad, it is you who decides what to make of it.

I disagree to that... typically you make music for others to enjoy... and if you're doing it for yourself...go find a cave and why post your stuff here then? I do believe that you shouldn't let others necessarily tell you what to record or do... unless they've got you on a great payroll and that's your means to that end.

I happen to like Greg's stuff...and macle's. Would I ever buy it or really listen to it a 2nd or third time.. Probably not. But it's home brew in their style and recorded very good. Not even original for that matter, but nowadays, that's really hard to do. But I enjoy music done well, no matter what I might not especially lean towards as far as my preferences. There's ALOT of really bad home recoreded stuff out ...especially in clinics like these... some of which I'm sure I contribute. But both these guys are towards the top of the heap as far as having some ears knowing how to get to their "end" in what sounds good.

I won't be brutally blunt, like I might have been 10 years ago around here, but there's lots to be gained listening to what others do... espeically when it really sucks...and you know NOT to do that!

Yeah, I guess. I tried to laugh off the whole thing, and it seems I end up seeming too sensitive or only wanting empty praise. Should have ignored it, but oh well.

I agree.

Although I pretty much do just make music in a cave for myself.
 
Good recording and performance. I would play with some of the stereo placement - the piano sounds fine on the far right, but as the song goes on I feel like my right ear is being pulled down. Why not try and move that guitar on the right? The one on the right is playing the solos and has more movement, get it out from under that piano and move it closer to off-center on the left or right so it can breathe more.

Your voice sounds fine, but you sound a little strange at the end when doing the "Whoa whoa whoa, yeah yeah yeahs", like you were trying to put some real feeling behind it but still tried to sing soft - like you were holding back. So it ends up sounding a little corny. But I could be totally wrong. haha
