i want to use my keyboard (yamaha djx) to play specific wav files on my computer depending on what keyboard keys i strike. i have midi capability but am not sure on how to set this up and what programs would be benificial. i currently use programs like acid pro and soundforge, but also have sawplus 32 and cakewalk available to me too. it seems that it should be fairly easy to have each key on my keyboard play a certain wav sample, but it eludes me to how to get it rolling, any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Soft sampler you say my friend.

The beast you are after is a piece of software called Halion made by Steinberg the same company that makes Cubase.

Retails at £250 in the uk but i expect you can get a much better deal if you shop around. The function you are trying to perform ( triggering wavs from your keyboard ) is easily done but you also have control over velocity, overlapping , crossfading etc just by using the mouse to drag lines across a virtual keyboard. The sampler has 16 part multi-timbrality so you should have enough scope for playing your wavs.

This is an excellent sampler which is better than its hardware equivilents in some peoples opinion.

In order to play wavs on the computer you must plug a midi cable into the midi out on your keyboard and the in on whatever midi connection you have running ito your computer (sound card maybe).

Hope this has helped
