Playing MIDI/Live Synth Pro in SONAR 2.2

I'm a newbie so please bear with me. I just upgraded from Pro Audio 9 to SONAR 2.2 and I want to play my Soundfonts in SONAR the same way I played them in Pro Audio 9 without having to use my damn SB Live! card. For the life of me I can't understand why my Soundfonts play in SONAR using Live Synth Pro, but when I try to play my keyboard sounds via MIDI through the Aardvark the little MIDI icon lights up at the bottom right of the screen but I get no sound. Did I set something up wrong or what? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Here's what I'm working with:

PIII 1gHz w/XP Home Edition
512mb RAM
2 - 20 gig Western Digital 7200 rpm drives
Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96
SB Live! Value
SONAR 2.2
Sound Forge 6
P.O.S. Casio CTK-631 Keyboard

Well, first of all you should check your cables and make sure the keyboard out is connected to your soundcard in. If this is not ok, you'll see the nasty little icon, but get no sound.

If that is ok, check the output channel of the track you're trying to use.

do you have the correct midi in and out devices selected in options>midi?
 
You must run the audio engine (beside the panic button). Usualy it's stoped when playback stoped... Click it... that's it :)
 
Thanks for all you guy's suggestions. My Soundfonts are still playing correctly through my Aardvark now, but for General MIDI I still get nothing. In Options|MIDI Devices, I have Direct Pro 24/96 selected as both the Inputs and the Outputs. For now, I will just use my Soundfonts for all my instrument needs. I guess it's not *SO* bad not being able to hear General MIDI because GM sucks anyway; but I'm still curious to know why I don't seem to be able to hear any GM.
 
Which General MIDI are you talking about?

If it's the soundfont GM (and you don't wanna use the SBLive! but Aark 24 instead) then you must upload it to LSP, and select it on the MIDI track.

If it's your Casio GM, then you did the right thing. Hook the MIDI cables from Aark MIDI In and Out to Casio MIDI Out and In. Select propher mode in your Casio (I don't have Casio, but in Korg it's Multi mode). Adjust the Casio level output, and route the audio out to your monitor system.

Could you be more specific on what's your problem, then we may be able to help you out :)

I'm glad I signed onto this board, otherwise I might have been totally lost! OK, when I set the track to 'Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth' I can hear the General MIDI from my CASIO which is what I wanted to hear in the first place, but I do notice a lag between the time I press the Casio keys and the time I hear the notes. Is there some sort of MIDI tweaking I can do?
 
Well, that's called latency... the delay between the time you hit the key and it makes sound... I'm not familiar with Aark2496, but looks like there's not much you can do to reduce the latency... If you're into soundfonts as much as I do, then 30 bucks Creative's SBLive! will help you alot handling this kind of latency while tracking MIDI stuff...

I was trying 2 avoid using my SB Live! card using SONAR. I use it in Pro Audio 9 and I can use General MIDI just fine but the sound quality is like night & day compared to the Aardvark! I just downloaded that metronome wave to use in SONAR from one of these threads and I guess I'll be using that.

Matter of fact, I just completed a remix song using my Aardvark and my soundfonts in SONAR. I *KNOW* this song would NOT have come out anywhere near this well if I had used my SB Live! card. Check it out here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/bigshuadaproducamusic.htm

BTW, I didn't mean to use the SBLive! to record audio... use it *only* as handy MIDI tools... It can sit beside the existing Aark24.
