This is a little bit off subject but still concerns hookups, my sound interface, and pcs so...

Anyway, Im playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Online and of course using my studio monitors for sound (which is awesome and also impossible if they're too loud, surprise gunfire might make you need an underwear change) through my firewire interface which is a Mackie Onyx 400f.

I'm trying to get a microphone to work in the game so I can talk.

I have a phantom powered Condenser mic plugged in with phantom power turned on. Now in the game the only way I can get it to work is going in settings and literally pushing a button that says "test microphone" and then sound will come through. Other then that it won't transmit sound in the game. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the controls on my mic (akg perception 200). Since the game has a "detect when im speaking and transmit" option and my mic has roll off option (on/ off) and 0 and -10dB option switches... maybe that would effec how the game recognizes the mic??

None the less I switched that function off and assigned a keyboard key to press when I want to talk. Still no go. So somethings weird.

I figured it's either the firewire interface or the games acting funny because its a phantom powered mic? Afterall who really uses a condensor mic in online gaming? LoL.

So I went to walmart and got a cheap $9 Logitech microphone.

I was looking at my onyx 400f's manual and I guess I can only plug in 4 mics (thought I could do more with the 4 inserts? Just not phantom powered.? Guess not?) So I tried an insert, no go. So then I used one of the Mic inputs which are XLR inputs with a hole in the middle that looks like it would take a 1/4" TRS plug (granted I'm using an adapter 1/8 trs to 1/4 trs of course). It fit and snapped into place so wwhat the hey, that must be how its made right?... are all XLR plugs like that? Or only some or what? I never knew that.

Still no go however. And furthermore, I'm not getting Audition to recognize the mic either... (the condensor audition recognizes fine) odd.

Also how can I make it so that I can just plug in any mic... Condensor or otherwise and just be able to hear myself through the speaker monitors?

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 x64.

THANKS SO MUCH IF YOU READ ALL THAT AND ARE WILLING TO GIVE ME ANY KIND OF INFORMATION!

Tried the LINEIN section of the interface too instead of the INSERT since that seamed to make more since. I just dont think a PC mic can be used with it?

Ouch no replies. Same thing on Mackies forum.

I'm guessing I'm doing everything right then and it should work. Hmmm...
