Playback/Recording in CWPA9

Hi,

I am doing some things in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, and having a big problem in trying to hear playback of previously recorded tracks while recording a new track. I no longer have the manual, and don't remember how to do it - since it has been a very long time from when it was last done.

Hard time as in, the system crashes. or, hard time as in no sound.

Really the set up is pertty simple. Just pick the port you want to play back through on each track where you pick the input.

I think that, maybe, you are referring to a procedure for a different kind of playback situation. The reason that I say this is because I don't remember having to do this, before. My aim is to be able to hear my previously recorded vocal tracks, as I record new audio tracks. I remember there being some type of setting, that had to be effected just once - but I can't remember where it was. I can't even find what I am looking for in the 'help' files.

Ohhhh. Well let me see here. I just set the tracks I already have down to the output I want (in my case layla 1/2) and I pipe that into my board and into my phones.


What type of soundcard are you using?
]When you click in the existing track source in the reack veiw, what does it say you are using for your port?

I have never had to do anything other than select my port on the tracks. By default it will play the tracks you are not recording on through that port and the track you are recording will be muted.

Try going to Options, Audio, drivers, and make sure the device you want to use for your phones is highlighted and then select it as your port in your track veiw.

Hope this helps. I am at a loss because I have never had a problem???

There's a checkbox in PA9 for "allow simultaneous record and playback." Is that what you're referring to? I don't recall where it's located, probably on the Options > Audio menu.
 
playback volume...

This may seem a little dumb, and please forgive me if I"m insulting your intelligence...have you checked your Window's volume controls? Right click over your speaker icon on the tool bar and click "open volume controls"...if your running thru the line in or mic, make sure that input is turned up loud enough to hear it...maybe try balancing it against your "wav" volume...or vise versa...if your trying to hear what you already have recorded, then make sure the "wav" volume is loud enough and maybe turn down your input source a bit.

No offense taken, as to your query of the settings regarding my volume controls. Sometimes it is, indeed, a very simple thing that has been overlooked which will offer rectification of a problem. But the volume controls were the absolute first things that I checked, when I found myself devoid of sound. I just have to find that command which will afford me what I need. I know that it is there, because it is something that I had to activate once before (a good while back), and I will find it again.

My sound card is a Creative AudioPCI (ES1371, ES1373) (WDM). This info was gathered from the device manager's sound section, and I don't know what it translates into regarding "cards". All that I do know is that it is integrated onto my motherboard, and is about 3-1/2 years old. Yes, before you even say it :>) I know that I am in dire need of a soundcard, anyway. But this is the same system that I had when I was able to use Cakewalk, in the past, the way that I desire to do now.

Hmmmm??

Well have you searched for a seperate mixer besides the windows mixer? Perhaps a mixer in you rcreative file?
I assume you have found the check box for full duplx in/out in cakewalk?
