playback problems

recently i have been having problems with my setup and i dont know why.

I use sonar 2, have an audiophile 2496, and Yorkville active ysm1p speakers. Before yesterday, everything was fine. When I played back what i recorded it came out of the speakers and came out fine.

Yesterday, I was kind of tweaking my setup: trying to get my onboard soundcard to also work in sonar, download newest audiophile driver, change some settings, etc.

When I was done with that I must have done something wrong because now when i play something back through the yorkville's i get something that i would verbally describe as this electronic fuzz, i can't hear my music at all.

I've been trying to change things back to the way they were but no luck. I have no idea what I did for the playback to no longer work properly.

I also have reason and cool edit pro and with those two programs, everything still works fine. I can hear the music play back out of the yorkvilles.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Go through your Options-->Audio and make sure the correct drivers are selected for playback. The problems always boils down to the pc having issues trying to use two separate hardware devices running different sets of drivers with the same software.

Just a quick question, why are you trying to get Sonar to use both?

I thought it would be nice at some point to be able to mix with the monitors and switch to my other sound card and hear playback through a different set in case you wanted to test the sound with another system, but I could never get it to work.

I gave up and now Sonar is strictly output through my monitoring system, and if I want to hear it on my computer speakers, I just mix it down and play it in a media player.

i wanted to use both soundcards for the same reason you did, to hear the playback through a different pair of speakers.

Today, I disabled my onboard soundcard and made all my audio options go through the audiophile/yorkville output but I still have the same problem.

So, I disabled all my audio drivers and then enabled them again and got
"Audio Driver Error
The following drivers do not support the current audio format or are in use by another application

M-Audio Delta AP Multichannel 1/2
M-Audio Delta AP Multichannel 3/4"

I have gotten this error message before in relation to my onboard soundcard (because it doesnt have WDM drivers while my audiophile does) but I have never gotten it in relation to the audiophile. I don't understand how the audiophile doesnt support the current audio format anymore. Could I have unknowingly changed my audio format to one not supported? How could I change it back? Could this have anything to do with my downloading new audiophile drivers yesterday? I don't know what to do to get the playback to work again. Thanks for the reply mtardif, more help please.

Unfortunately, the only advice I can offer up right now is to try a full reinstall, it will definitely give you the cleanest results.

I'm at work so I can't get to my workstation to try to replicate the problem, but there have been quite a few threads going around with that error message in it.

I can check it out more later today when I get to the studio

Does that apply for any program or just Sonar?

Before I had a complete reformat, I would re-install the drivers once more. Remove the drivers, remove the card in the Device Manager, physically remove the card from your computer, boot up and shut it down again, and install the card...

it applies to just sonar. I also have reason and cool edit pro and everything is fine there.

I re-installed sonar and everything plays back normal again. Thanks for the help guys.
