Placement with an MD421...

I am not sure, I dont have one yet, but I dont think the 421 is a side address mic. Every time I've seen them in use, the instrument is pointing directly at the top/tip of the mic. If you side address it, you will get a reduced off axis sound.

Did changing the way it points fix the problem?

Man - now I can't wait to get back home and try it the "right" way. Wow. Thanks!

HAHAHAHA...biggest head slapper all day.

You will love the mic. It is not an exaggerated mic (like many are used to these days) but it's very smooth and detailed with a monsterous, woody low end.

Whatever you do, don't try to cram it up your nose. Even if somebody bets you $100. Trust me, it hurts real bad!

Ya - definitely a head slapper. It's actually GREAT news because although I'm no expert, I have a firebox and a summit audio 2BA-221 - and I really wasn't getting the sound I was looking for - to say the LEAST. So, ya - I'm pumped to get back home and give 'er a whirl!
