hi all,

When I use Cool edit and I want to save something, you can select 'save non audio information', and with every wav file it creates an extra .pk file. What and why is this. I thought information like panning and volulme was saved in the Session (.ses ) file.

Do I need this .pk files and what do they exactely do?

thx for advice!!!

They just allow files to be located easier and load faster, you don't really need them at all. I don't know why but I find them irritating. There is a checkbox somewhere that turns them off.

You can disable the writing of .pk files at Options > Settings > System.

.Pk files store the waves display information and I've noticed with 16-bit files, it loads up very quickly.

Do I use them? No.

Whenever I use them when I record at 24-bit, they don't load the file up faster at all, its like I'm using them without .pk files but in fact I am. Peak files only work for me when I'm working with 16-bit files.

thats weird. They totally cut down load time for me.

when you load withOUT pks.. do you have to wait while its "building peaks"?

xox

Using pk files, Cool loads sessions *instantly* for me. Without the pk files, I have to wait for Cool to build the session up track by track. PK files are great.
