I recently came into the possession of an RT-707
the person I got it from said it was recording fine and then they messed with the o-adjust because they thought it was a screw, and now whenever you try to record it plays back silence or the recording is extremely faint.

I was hoping this would be something a novice like myself could fix.

Are you sure that's "O-Adjust" there? It looks kind of like "G-Adjust" to me, which could stand for "Gain Adjust." If that's true, then that may very well explain it. If they turned it down, they could have turned down the input gain.

That is the mechanical Zero "0" Adjust for the VU Meter. It has no effect on the electronics or anything else, it just zeros the meter, which from looking at the pic needs to be done. But that is not your problem.

I wonder what the problem could be. The only work I've done on it is when I got it the capstan motor was turning way too fast, which turned out to be a loose pin connector which I reconnected. I also cleaned the heads with 91% alcohol (denatured unavailable). But that should be safe to do. Playback and erase heads seem to be working fine.

I wonder what the issue could be. Will do some more troubleshooting today but if anyone has any ideas lemme know! Thank you for your replies.

Also how do you guys go about cleaning the electronics inside of your reel to reels? This thing needs some cleaning.
