I liked Floyd until Waters got all depressingly self-indulgent. Whenever I listen to Zep, I remember Plant's 'DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER LAUGHTER?' line from TSRTS version of StH. Then, the hair on the back of neck goes up, I shiver, cringe, and begin to retch.

When I listen to Floyd these days, it's generally pre-Dark Side of the Moon stuff.

I hardly listen to Zep now. I was more impressed with Page when I was 18 than I am now.

It has it's moments, but it is just too misanthropic, even for me. The music is ok, I just find the lyrical themes oppressive. Dogs is just too long, and depressing to boot; I'd think my fave is Sheep. Still, it will always connect me back to when I was 17, which is when it came out.

Double points on the Animals plug there, and my vote would have to go to Pink Floyd as well. All in all on a strictly musical level they just move me more. That's all there is to it. Ok ok, I hate Robert Plant too, but usually he's easy to overlook. And besides, pink IS red, with just a touch of every other color too. So, in that sense, Floyd wins as well.

Technically the answer is unequivocally Led Zeppelin.

Listen to Nick Mason and Roger Waters all the way through 'Wish You Were Here'. I didn't really notice it for years (I was too busy enjoying the music ;) ), but they're absolutly terrible as a rhythm section. They just don't lock in at all. Gilmour held that band together.

Don't get me wrong - I love both bands equally, but technically PF are not as hot.

Even though I am a bigger Floyd fan, I would have to give the nod to Zep. 4 incredible musicians in one band that actually fit together as a band. Gilmour IMHO was the driving force in Floyd (even though I like the older stuff and animals is one of my fav's) I would have to say that I like the later Floyd/gilmour stuff (like Division bell, and MLOR) much better.

Gotta go with the Zep although Early Steppenwolf is up there too.

These who's better things are pretty silly but I can't resist. Pink Floyd for me. I think they're one of the greatest bands of all time and I think Roger Waters is one of the greatest songwriters. Not everybody can handle all depressing all the time but if you can it doesn't get much better than Floyd. Of course two of my other favorite songwriters are Hank Williams and Percy Mayfield so I guess I can handle the dark stuff.

Songwriting? Dark Stuff? Jagger/Richards...........I Can't Get No (guitar riff ah, ah, ahhh...) Satisfaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Stones Blow! They should fall on their knees and beg Irma Thomas and Bobby Womack for forgiveness for stealing and ruining their songs.

I used to like both bands alot, saw Floyd three times, once in Carnegie hall. Attended the "Song Remains the Same Concert" by Zep.

Now I can take them or leave them. Floyd was a bunch of space cadets and Zep was just a back up band for Plant and both were aiming their music at teenagers.

Gotta give you credit for that one, jalbert. Great comeback.....................

At least he spells it correctly. Alot people spell it Led Zepplin. Don't get me wrong I love Pink Floyd . But I think Led Zepp has the edge . From blues (many different forms ) to rock , hard rock, country, bluegrass, finger pickin,6-string , 12 string , slide , different tunings , capos , violin bow , etc... Hands down Zeppelin is the winner in my book.

I was only joking btw, I love the zepp. I would hang my head in musical shame if I'd never have heard of them.

Pink floyd were more inivitive and fresh, and were the better band, although led zeplin had some great guitar riffs.
