Pics required for mic research

Well, the HA-101 boards looks like my $100 Cascade M20’s (the M20’s bass cut and roll-off switches are on the capsule and thus not on the board). The Cascade M20 is identical to a b-zillion other Chinese mics, including the MXL 2001, ADK 51, Nady SCM 900s, Audix CX-100s, etc, etc… (the 2001s are not made by the same company, but their boards and design are identical). Bunyip: You may or may not have known this (I believe in “innocent until proven guilty”), but as I jokingly told ausrock in the other thread, it’s just another MXL 2001.

If you have a scanner, try getting an image of the V67 off it. I have done it with an NT2 without too many problems.

Bunyip, please don't waste space replying in this thread.............firstly, if you purchased the mic as you claimed, then NO-ONE can tell you whether to open it up or not........it is your mic to do with as you please. Secondly, claiming that the HA101 specs outperform a C1 means absolutely nothing............and the C1 was never designed to be a U87 knock off, it was deliberately voiced a certain way which regardless of some comparisons IS NOT like a U87. That said, I can "mod" a C1 very quickly to sound very much like one................total cost............less than $1. Also in one breath you are claiming to have purchased the mic, then in another using the term "our" which implies you have a vested interest in these mics as a collective..................please get your story straight.

The difference is that the V67G doesn't have the low cut and 10dB attenuation circuitry.

Thanks for the reminder.........I actually have those pics, but forgot the V67 was there.

I put another pic up on the other thread showing one pcb from an Apex 430. It also has the "on board" switch, whereas the Apex 420 had the switch mounted in the mic body.

Although I had wanted to accumulate pics, particularly of the Chinese pcb's, my main reason for requesting pics now was to attempt to illustrate to bunyip that his Feilo mic is nothing special and regardless of any possible mods it is grossly overpriced.

…and with much success, I might add. It should be real obvious to him now that the only difference is maybe +/- $1.00 for a mic that cost $600 more. He is a persistent fellow, though. He’ll be very successful selling cars… :p

Thanks for posting that, Don. I was wondering what was in those things. Can you read the writting on the transistors?

T1 is 2N5401 Y-107. T2 is the same as T1. T3 is hard to see, but looks like it says K170 GR DF. T4 is 2N5551 Y-113 (smudged, but I think that's what it says).

Does anyone have pix of whats inside an MXL V69ME and Rode NT2? I consider purchasing one of these mics and want to have a look at the guts first. Thanxxx!

Here is the NT 2. The image quality is "as is" due to me doing it on a scanner:) .

BTW, just in case you have ever heard of this..........there is NO truth to rumours that the NT2 is the same as any Behringer mic.

Just curios, someone mentioned they could mod a C1 to sound like a U87....uhhh HOW??? i'm really interested because the sound of the U87 is obviously desireable, but I can bearly afford the C1, definitly worth it if i can mod it though

thanks for any help
 
I had the info for that mod, but I think it may have been lost during a H/drive crash, but I will say this............it is one mod that would involve a degree of risk.............it would be possible to stuff up the C1 and end up with nothing. Personally I didn't feel it was worth it, and believe me, over the last 25yrs or more I have built and repaired gear (reluctantly), so I am not a newbie in that area.

Interesting thread. Interesting enough that I checked out the V67 with an ADK A51. Remarkably similar inside! Same construction and boards. Transformers were numbered differently but LOOKED exactly the same. Couldn't really see the capsules for comparison. I learned one thing--the ADK A51 has an internal switch for rolloff. You just have to take the mic apart to get to it! I took some pics, but I don't know how they turned out yet. If good, I will post them.

Thanks for that. It appears a number of these mics have that switch "concealed"............my take on it is that it was probably easier and cheaper to do that, rather than design and manufacter a totally different PCB for those mics which weren't including the switch as a feature. I have an Apex here which is the same.
