You can fix that loading with a 220k resistor and a.001 cap across the in and out of the volume pot.

But why would you want to 'fix it'

Playing with the volume control to soften up the sound is a great way to get a really jazzy sound out of a Strat - and Ed Bickert has been doing it with a Telecaster for years.

M. Brane says 'a couple of passive pickups for truly authentic tone'

I'll take the truly authentic tones of my PAF's and my early sixties Strat and Tele pickups and my mid 50's P90s over your cold clinical EMG's everyday.

Are mine as clean - NO!

. . . and maybe that's why I like them!

It's all down to taste y'all.

64 firebird,

i have no technical background, BUT i have tried 'm all. And i bet you haven't ... cuz high output pickups sound good! even on clean settings. My personal favourite is the gibson 500t ... a classic overwound pickup...

I bought a strat kit -- the neck and body are very nice, but I plan on updating the pickups based on all the reviews I've read.

I am considering a Duncan 59er, but have also heard good things about the Fender lace sensors.

Any ideas on what position I should put these in?

I am looking for a clean, warm, jazzy tone for rhythm and a warm bite for the bridge/lead.

Thanks!

the 59 is truely awsome, by all means, go for it.

I think one has to try them first,i´ve once replaced the original p.a.f. pickups on a gibson les paul standart for Al di Dimeola di marzio and i´ve got the cleanest pure sound that could ever come out from a ..fender..(!) type guitar...so i´ve placed the originals again of course.it was not what i was looking for,but the right combination can be very efective,
i ve got a E.S.P. Telecaster Ron Wood model and put the Seymour Duncan pickup made for Jerry Donahue(Fairport Convention..)and i tell you they will be there forever::) some work good for your intended sound others just give you another color you may not like,so seek and try...

there are good Dimarzios as well as bad Dimarzios
there are good Duncans as well as bad Duncans
there are good EMGs as well as bad EMGs ....
etc
etc
.. and that is because not every pickup suits everyone. I've chosen a stock pickup over a Duncan pickup ... or a Dimarzio over a Lawrence. Not because they are bad, I think mostly because they are just not for me.

BTW I cannot stand those rap or nu-metal music !

pickups

Duncan SH-4 on the neck and SH14 on the bridge. These also switch from single to double coil w/ push/pull pots. Mostly I use hybrid strat version for clean rythym, single coil on the neck and double coil on the bridge. Makes my SG sound amazingly like a telecaster; I just prefer the Gibson neck. For rock and roll or anything with distortion, I have another SG with classic 57 humbuckers. Works for me- Richie

hey hongtec,

are you just frustrated or is there a reason you say you don't like rap and nu-metal? it could be your signature ofcourse... :D:D:D

couldnt a microphone be explained and disected the same way: metal, wire, magnets, amplified output....
just a signal...

I think we all know that all mics are not the same.

Jeesh, what color is best?

I have a guitar, being repinted right now, but it has a Seymore Jeff Beck Model in the bridge position and a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the neck. Both are great pick ups, but sound different depending on the guitar. I do have a cheap Ibeenhad with Power Sound pick-suck oops.. Sloppy, weak and noisy. Lets get into the debate of Humbucker and Single coils, stacked single coils, active and passive. I like green pick-ups...though I don't own any...

Play some music

Let me quote what I just said "Not because they are bad, I think mostly because they are just not for me. .. "

That's for pickups as well as for other things. Lighten up !

Pickups?

(Lick finger and rub it on her shirt) "Whaddya say we go somewhere to get out of these wet clothes."

Hongtek,

look back

see the smilies?

that would indicate a very friendly and funny atmosphere to me... there's no need to lighten up, i never took it that hard... ah well maybe it's your personal crusade against rap and nu-metal, and you can't see how funny it is when someone enters a thread about pickups  and then just goes and bitches about rap and nu-metal... it is a rather out of the blue remark

so uhm... sorry and off ya go fighting windmills!

Guhlenn:)

newest user... i have a blue humbucker... no kiddin!

pickup line; your father must be a thief, cuz he stole all the stars in the sky and put them in your eyes (aaaah)... ok i stole this from my bathroom list of pickup lines

It was me. I don't want to get VP into any more trouble.

Someone should go close out those ancient polls. If you vote in them without commenting, the next poor slob that makes a comment gets blamed.

I thought it was cute.

I always get a cognitive disconnect when I open up one of these old ones, and I think, "Who the hell are all these people? " :D
