Finally got around to soldering in a new rhythm pickup in my 72 Tele. The old one's volume just faded out completely - I haven't got an ohm-meter to check it, but suspect the coils rusted away or something.
Anyway, that said, it sounds good to me, has that old Fender clean twang and is well balance with my (original) lead pickup, but a friend insinuates I should have gone with a more expensive pickup, considering the guitar's value. I can't see plunking down a couple of hundred for an authentic vintage pickup which could crap out at any time, nor a 'hot' replacement pickup either.
I'm not planning on selling it, don't gig (right now), only record, so what do you guitarists think?

Tell your buddy to buy a Tele and put whatever he likes in his.If you like it that is all that matters.

What he said. If your buddy wants a particular pickup/tone, let him spend his own money getting it. And, since when does cost equate directly to tone??
