Believe it or not, i actually like my Behringer headphone amp for generic tracking and headphone branching. It has individual L and R ear mutes which is nice and a mono butoon, per mix aux inputs, a way to dasiy chain, and a total of 12 heapdphone outs. All for under $100. And normally I hate Behringer

I will definitley agree with you on this one piece of Behringer gear.

So what sounds better? the Mackie for monitoring or the Presonus?

May be just me, but I think the CS sounds better...for some reason it seems louder as well.

Go figger...

My 2¢...

louder always sounds better try level matching then your findings maybe somewhat valid...

I think his point was that you said you thought the CS sounded better and it was louder too. Whatever is louder will sound better. So, the only valid comparison between two pieces of equipment is if they are both at the same volume level. Only then will you hear the true differences between them.

I would hope the CS would sound better, because transparency is it's whole purpose. There's a lot more circuit for your signal to go through in the Mackie.

Precisly! and I would be extremely interested in your finding cuz I'm using a Mackie right now and love to know if its worth going to the CS after I get my summing box.

Teacher,

Please accept my humble apology. I read you post and interpreted it wrongly.

Now, the only way I've been able to test what you and Sonic are asking, is with a db meter. That's probably not how you folks are talking about. Please feel free to tell me how to do it otherwise.

Having said that, at very similar levels on the db meter the Central "sounds" louder and better. I'm attributing that to the CS' cleaner path.

Would my theory hold water?

thats good enough for me....now if someone could shoot it out with the big knob....

Now that's very interesting. So if I understand what you are saying, it is that with the db meter reading the same on the same material, the *apparent* level of the CS is higher?

These kind of level comparisons are something that I always do by ear. Get the levels matched by ear and then switch back and forth quickly. Ideally the switching is instantaneous.

I'd be curious to know what your db meter reads when you get the units matched by ear.
