Suck 'em and see!
It's a GRUNDIG Dynamic Microphone GDM 12

Comes in it's own foam lined metal carry case etched with the grundig logo and GDM 12 on the lid. Foam's a little deteriorated with age but the mic looks like it's never been out the box.

Has anyong got any idea on the age of this thing? What it might be used for? or what it might be worth....if anything.

Alec.

clearer pic

I'm guessing it's for use with an old reel to reel recorder. This pic is a bit clearer.

yah it looks like a mic for an old reel to reel deck.

couldnt tell yah how old.

could be a cool mic for a special effect on a guitar amp and vocals and drums and stuff. But special effect probably. Unless you pull it out and it sound damn good. Who knows?

Grundig? When I hear that name I think of shortwave radios...

Maybe it used to be for a ham radio set?

That mic looks more like a radio type mic... you know, like for a CB radio. Does it have a "push to talk" type button on the side of it?

Be carefull about your comments reguarding boot sale. The British have many different words than us ie valve for tube. Wouldn't doubt its our version of garage sale or the like. You know we say give it the boot. I once bought a British electronics book and it really came with a glossery of Americian vs British terms.

Churchill said something like "two nations seperated by a common language." He didn't know American southerners either.

Lets see now You Guys = Y'all.

Actually, having lived in the land down under for several years, I was able to acquire an affinity for many things British -- particularly the terminology. Returning stateside I often referred to the trunk of my car as the "boot", the hood as the "bonnet", and so on... Along with neat terms and spelling, the British also have a great sense of wit and humour.

Bang on! By boot sale I ment a car boot or trunk sale, kinda like a garage sale but you take all the junk out the garage and put it in your BOOT or TRUNK and drive it to a field with 250 other people trying to offload their junk too....kind of a neat way to pick up useless ham radion microphones from the 50s & 60s I guess.

You guys know what sarcasm is, right?

j/k

Here in the USA we call that a "fea market" or "swap meet".

I was actualy there looking for a PAIR of lace up large diaphram condenser BOOTS to wear in the xy position

<singing> these boots were made for talking</singing>

From the looks of the pics I've seen that's not a radio mic. It appears to be for a recorder or dictation machine. I've been around radio gear for a number of years, both commercial and ham, and do not ever recall seeing 1. radio mic without some sort of switch 2. the connector shown on cable used for radio aps. I can not recall the name of that type connector its been so long since I last saw one on a public address system.

I think the plug on the cable is a 3 pin male DIN socket, smller than your regular xlr

DIN = direct input? <shrugs>
