Night of the Living Thread, huh? When I started this thread I had just made the switch to Jim Dunlop Big Stubby 2.0mm on electric, but was still using the black 1.0mm on acoustic.

Well now it's nothing but the 2.0 big stubby on everything. I can't hardly play with anything else, so I always carry a couple with me--just in case. I've even become paranoid that they'll stop making 'em, so I buy 'em all the time. I have a couple hundred in a big glass jar.

Really? I lose 'em all the time. Could be my habit of carrying 'em around with me everywhere. They usually show back up in the laundry room, but there numbers still seem to dwindle.

I'll probably sell all my studio gear and guitar to retire to the islands, and have nothing but a jar of picks to leave my kids when I die!

Strangely I dont seem to lose picks, still have most of the picks I have ever owned dating back to when I first started in the early '80s.

When I finish playing I wedge them in between the strings and they never seem to disappear. :)
 
Fender California Clear Mediums. Buy 'em by the gross when they go on clearance at shops, so I get 'em CHEAP.

First time I bought a gross (144) of pics, I bought 'em via ebay in about 1999. Immediately sold half to the second highest bidder for half what I paid, and the remaining 72 lasted me until 2009! Bought the afore mentioned gross of CC's that year, and probably won't need to buy more for a decade!
 
Yellow Dunlop teardrops that I cut up with a x-acto knife of both sides so they don't slip out of my hands.

Yep. Welcome to the club. I started using the JD stubbies years ago and I reckon I've got at least $50 worth of them flaoting around the house.

I was thinking about this the other week - for me it actually doesn't matter if it's 1mm, 2mm or 3mm or the stubby vs the full size version. It's the fact that the pick does *not* flex, but *does* taper down to a fine point at the business end.

I just get great(er) control over picking and sweeping with that little fine point doing the work. The problem is that once the point wears out, it's done with!

... really considering just rounding up all the used picks and grinding back the point.

Mine wear out before I lose them. I buy maybe a dozen at a time then throw them in the dead jar when they wear out. I don’t know why I don’t just throw them out??? :confused: Maybe in case the world comes to end I’ll still have some used picks to play with??? :D

hmm, i've been using the purple dunlop tortex's for like 10 years now lol

Still using Ultex, and still not married to MCI2424 or starbuck26 (they keep rejecting my proposals, even the ones with sky-writing). Love it when I can be consistent, which isn't often.
 
snarling dog 1.14's. i was skeptical when i tried them out, i've bought two tins so far and if i didn't lose them i might still be on the first pick. i think i've acutally managed to wear one down enough to where i threw it away but it was still in great shape. the grip was weird at first but now i love it.

anybody seen larger than 1.14? They feel a little thinner than dunlop's 1.14 but i'd like to try to beef it up if i could find a thicker version.

either way, great pick.
 
For electric work I use Dunlop Jazz III, the Eric Johnson version.

I used to use the small teardrop-shaped Fender picks in medium, but could go through one in an hour of playing because of the attack angle I use. The Dunlops wear forever and have a good shape and thickness.

For acoustic stuff I use a larger form like a standard Fender pick, in a medium, but I'm not too picky about it (ha ha) if I'm just doing chording.

I did forget to mention the quite nice tortiose and ivory picks made by Mutt. The tortiose is great for acoustic work, and the ivories seem to lend themselved a little better for electric work.

I don't consider them consumables so I use them lightly. :)
 
Whatever is available. I play more leads and such...so thicker pick is a must.
