Hello-

I posted here before but I didn't get any responses, despite many views.

I have been attempting to record a guitar track using two methods. The first is to mic the amp and then run the mics into a PA system and then run the line out into the microphone jack of my computer, into the free program Audacity. The second method is the same except instead of using a PA I use a pro mixer. For some reason, whenever I record the guitar sounds fine for 10 seconds, but then suddenly drops off into a phased-sounding lower-volume sound. Is there a reason this phasing is occurring? Is it because of the software, or my cheap soundcard? I don't think it's the mic because I've tried going directly from preamp to the computer and the same thing happens there too.

If you're only using one microphone it's probably not a phase issue. What line out are you using on your PA? Is it from an individual channel or the main ouputs? The microphone input on your soundcard should be receiving a mic signal rather than a line level signal--you may be overloading the input. It may be time to think about upgrading your soundcard.

I think you're blowing the soundcard's input by sending into the mic input. you have to use the line input.
