I have phase cancelation probs on a pair of Sm57s. How are you supposed to reverse phase on a mic like a Shure SM57 or Sm58?? There is no phase switch on the mics or switch on my Mackie mixing board....

...sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really don't know.

You make up a short (about 18") cable with XLRs at each end. On one connector, you reverse the wires going to pins 2 and 3.

Hmmm... how about just getting placement right? Unless its a top and bottom drum kinda thing you should be able to screw with placement and get things just right very easily, and a phase switch would only probably reverse it and still be however many degrees out of phase, unless its perfectly out. yeah?

Thanks Harvey, I will try that. I wonder if XLR phase switch boxes are available too?

does the cable HAVE to be that short? will it work with a regular cable. i'm asking because i don't have a polarity reverse switch anywhere in my rig, and i want to do bottom and top micing on drums.

Sure, it'll work with any length cable, but Harvey was just saying that you can just build a small adapter. You can then put any length cable you want after the adapter cable.

i did this to one of my cables for bottom snare and it works great.

thanks. it was just a dumb question, but i had to be sure. :)

May I suggest the obvious? Make sure you mark this "special" cord so that you don't use it inadvertently when this effect is not desired.:p

yeah, i had thought of doing that, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
