Good stuff Beezelbubba. Very strange sound, I like it! Couple of points:
I felt the intro was too long. I'd either cut it down to even half the amount of time, or I'd start introducing more things as it goes along to keep it interesting.
The
acoustic guitar sounds great, really blends in well.
As said before, the toms are too loud. Are they done in mono? Or is it just one tom? I'd pan em out more, get the rolls to swing from left to right or vica versa. They also sound very dead to me. They should ring out a little more.
Bass sounds great, good separation with the kick.
The snare was a bit buried.
Textural synthy stuff sounds great, adds a lot of depth and polish to the track, making it sound that bit more professional.
Distorted guitar sounds good, nice tone. I felt these should have been a lot bigger though. For starters I'd add some high mids/treble and get them to bite a little more. Is that just one track? It sounds very mono, I'd double track and pan hard. It'd give a lot more impact (which is essentially what going from clean to distortion is meant to achieve).
The violin is very harsh and too loud. I'd either cut some high mids out, or put a multiband on it to tame the presence where it pokes out.
Is that second solo a violin with wah? I know the violin is fretless, and that this is a debut, but I'd work on it some more. Either re-record or put it through melodyne or some other pitch correction tool. Not too much though, you'll want to keep some of that freedom in the melody. Some out-of-tunish sounding stuff works, this is a little too much unless you're going for that velvet underground thing
Vocals sound really good, really spacious and tamed back, it suits the song. The double track works really well, kind of schizophrenic sounding if you get me. A little panning would do wonders.
Bass break after second solo sounds good but it goes on a little long. I'd cut it down and run into another chorus and then end it.
Overall, it's a really cool tune. Very chillout. However it feels kind of repetitive, I think it needs to take off in a different direction for a bit and then return to base.
Keep it up!
