It's the little scale thing in the right corner but,

Some can be powered by a 9volt battery, I THINK.

whats phantom power

whats phantom power any way and who the heck made it its a wierd name and whats so diffrent from a freakin condenser mic and a i forgot the other mic-------------and i meant phantom power like on a multi track disc recorder

A condenser mic has a capsule (the diaphragm) that needs to be charged, that's just how condensers work. A dynamic mic works kind of like a speaker in reverse, it doesn't need power. That is actually the difference between the two.

Most mixers and newer multi-tracks have at least a couple mic inputs with phantom power, you will have to check the owners manual to see if yours does.

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! farveiw thats like the best reply i have goten every1 else just says go do some research and i cant find out what i want to no and then i search so long i forget what i was searching 4 i have alot of questions im looking into recording for my band

The sticky at the top of the mic forum would answer most of your questions.

whys it even called phantom power and recording is way more dangerous than i thought i mean i could ruen my mics why is it made like that cant i just plug it in geez

How are you going to ruin your mics?

It's made like that so that you don't need to have an external power supply for every condenser you want to run.

oh ok so condensers would need like a 9volt if there was no phantom power and it said u could ruin ur ribbon or dynamic mics if they wernt wired right or something

you would need another box (and another cable) to supply the mic with 48 volts.

You can't blow a dynamic with phantom power. The only way to blow a ribbon mic with phantom power is by having the cable wired wrong. If you buy good quality cables and you don't have a ribbon mic, you won't have a problem.

I understand your frustration, but you need to understand that you are asking some of the most commonly asked questions and some people get tired of giving the same info over and over. I know for a fact that I already recommended the sticky in the mic forum to you.

Here is a really good indexed resouce: http://www.theprojectstudiohandbook.com/directory.htm

I suggest you spend a few hours there. Then once you're armed with more info, come back here with your questions.

P.S. I upped your rep for you.

Anyway, recording ain't for pussies. You might blow something up, that's why you need to know what you are doing. That's also why you can't learn everything you need to know inside of a week.

i dont mean to be a newbie pest with all these anouying questions------and i dont get that rep thing at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is a memorex from target a ribbon mic?
Ribbon mics are not that common, they are more of a specialty item. You don't buy pro audio equipment at Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc...

That one is probably an electret. (a form of dynamic)
