Hey guys, I was just wondering if anything will happen to my mic's or mixer if some of the mics need the phantom power on and some of them don't need phantom power.. Will this ruin the mics that don't need it? What initially will happen or not? (Speaking ofcourse if they are all connected to the same mixer...)

Most non condenser(dynamic) mics can take the 48v phantom power. And some newwer ribbon mics as well. Some older "ribbon" mics cant. If you can, just dont use the 48v phantom power if you dont need it. Its only needed in condenser type mics(Unless your board powers up 8 48v mic pres at a time).

Thanks for your reply...really appreciated...I've also done a search and found threads regarding this (should have searched before posting, sorry about that). I have two large diaphram condensors and they require phantom power, I am going to be purchasing an SM57 soon, and that does not require it. My current mixer is a Behringer Eurorack MX 802A... 8 channel and 2 bus.. I know its crap, but it will have to do..

If you have Condencor mics that Run on Battery Power and you Plug them into a Channel; with Phantom Power you could Burn out the Mic so make sure if you have Battery Powered Condensers don"t use Phnatom power on them....

Most Mixers allow you to select which Channels have Phantom Power Like My BST Lab35 Mixer allows me to Just Use Phantom power on the Channels I need it with....

Cheers

What mics do you have that behave like this? All of my condensers with batteries in them charge the battery off the phantom power.
