i have a MXL 990 condensor mic and it runs on 48v phantom power, but could i run it into my friends PA mixer that only has 15v phantom power, would that work or is that gonna ruin the mic?? please help

Give it a try and see what it sounds like - might be OK. It definitely won't ruin the mic or anything else.

alright thanks, i just wasnt sure and didnt want to ruin my mic. its just because i just got the mic and my mixer with the full 48v is on backorder so we wanted to try out the mic through our existing PA

It won't ruin it, but if it runs at all, you'll wind up with lower SPL before distortion, and possibly higher noise. Chances are though, it'll be fine.

I have two Rane MLM series preamps. Both have +15v phantom, and both sound like pure ass with my mics.

AT4047
AT4040
V67M
SP C4

It is truly unusable.

I droppend in a rack mounted Rolls Phantom Hex that provides true +48v and all is well with the Ranes.

Rolls makes other nice +48v supplies, other than the rack mount.
