I hear that on all major workstations that the presets sound better in performance mode rather than sequencer mode.Is this true? And if so is it possible to get a similar sound in sequencer mode

Performance mode, on most synths, simply combines several (how many depends on the synths architecture) single sounds into a combination. If it sounds "better" it's just because the sounds are fuller.

What synth are you using? It's hard to be very specific without knowing what instrument you have.

not to mention that performance mode has effects. I dont know about the seqencers of today but the keyboard I have has master effect for each song and not for each track or channel. The sequencer does not use the effects of the sample in program mode. my keyboard is a little old though so I dony know if you can use the effect individually on each track.

Exactly!!!!! Korg's can copy there Programs or Combi's complete to the sequencer with FX, but any other tracks in the sequencer would have to share those FX too.

It's not so much that the sounds are better in performance mode, it's just that you are hearing them the way they were designed.

I have a Fantom-X keyboard, and am going to get the motif es and triton racks soon, I'm thinking about just forgetting about sequencing everything except my drum samples, and playing all the sounds live
