i have tha shockmount mounted on tha top rack
n tha popperstopper is made out of nylons n a metal hanger
n tha door slides close when not in use...

pretty nifty huh...

bomb diggit-y. That's what I'm talking about. Right now, my vocal booth is just awesome. I keep my clothes in another room. I attached a pic. There's Auralex on the wall behind the Nady, but I will have to pull it out and use it to treat my new control room when I move. Where I'm going the closet is only about half the size which is lame because here I can actually play my guitar in the closet and it sounds like outerspace. When I have to set up again, I'll have to use the vocal booth to hang clothes too, so space is going to be limited. Hopefully I can pad the new space enough to kill the closet verby.

Egg carton is a brilliant idea.

Are you singing facing the closet or facing the room?

Those egg cartons will be great for erm.... storing eggs, do you do much of that with your music?

It's funny how people think they have to have bumpy things hanging on the walls if there is a mic anywhere nearby.

YES! YES! YES! Egg cartons are brilliant!!!! Get all you can!!!

When you do a search here for "egg cartons", don't believe all of the negative things you read. Those people are just trying to keep all of the egg cartons for themselves.

Sheesh...

 LOL

Thinking about it the way you have positioned the egg cartons the eggs will probably fall out. I'd consider investing in some no-more-nails to glue them in there. :)

i spit facing the closet, everybody say egg cartons work for booths n shit...

egg cartons

Egg carton is a thin treatment that can break up reverb causing it to reflect in different angles. You don't want reflections in your closet. You'll amplify your tiny closet vocal making it just that. What you really want to do is effectively create an almost acoustically dead closet space by absorbing as much of the closet's natural, "Help, I'm in a very small closet!" kinda reverb sound as possible. Basically, the trick is to add padding until that canned closet vibe goes away.

Your blankets need to be thick. Soft padded material will absorb highs and mids much better. Especially without the reflective egg carton in front of it. Use more blankets. You'll have to make a super-thick layer. In the photo of my walk-in I have a sleeping bag draped over that dowel that normally would hang clothes, and behind that sleeping bag I have a stack of pillows and rolled up sleeping bags piled as high as possible. You can see the pillows on the shelf too.

Too much padding and it will sound kind of muted and weird. It's really hard to add that much padding. But I'm just saying that it's possible to add too much absorbsion as well. So don't go totally insane asylum on the walls.

Once you've satisfactorily deadened the vocal booth, you can add reverb and warmth later on in the computer (vst or rtas plug) or using a decent preamp.

thanks for all tha help, i was juss gon keep puttin egg cartons everywhere...

Egg cartons do not provide much diffusion, especially not enough to be remotely effective.

You're right about making small closets dead, and adding reverb later though.

I don't know about booths, but egg cartons seem a little abrasive for the latter. I like a good, soft Charmin myself. :D

Maybe get some pillows or cotton up in there like mindbuzz's...that seems like it would work a little better in a booth situation.

Spittin' rap...man I feel my age. I remember back in the day when I was into LL and Run DMC and the term d'jour was "bustin' rhymes". I'm a little bit old school. I still like to throw on Raising Hell occasionally. Great album.
