I have the following components ready to use: 733mhz Intel computer,120MB RAM,20GB disk, Windows98r2, SBLive! sound card with MIDI hookup, Darla24 card, Roland EM-10 (MIDI) keyboard, small mixer board, microphones, headphones, cables, etc,etc.

The software I have available includes: BandInABox v10a, AcidPro, CuBase, PowerTracks, and the Roland VSC88 software MIDI synth.

My main difficulty at the moment is from within BandInABox (a MIDI program).

I am attempting to find the right combination of software drivers, mixer connections, Darla connections, microphone/line connections, etc. which will enable me to (from within BandInABox) to 1) playback the MIDI song THRU my headphones WHILE 2) also monitoring my vocal and/or guitar feed(s) thru the headphones WHILE only recording the vocal/line feeds. WHEW!

Currently I have the system hardware setup as follows:

Keyboard <--midi-->SB!Live card

MICROPHONE/LINE ---> Mixer inputs 1&2

Mixer AuxSend ---------> Darla Line 1 In

Darla Out 1 ----------> Mixer (mono) L Stereo Return

Headphones <--------- Mixer 'Phone' output

Within BandInABox, I configure the drivers as follows:

MIDI In = SBLive UART
MIDI Out = Roland VSC88

Within The Roland VSC88 product, I have the following configuartion:

>Use VSC88 for DirectSound
>DirectSound output directed to Darla 1/2 Analog Outs
>When not using VSC88, direct analog and MIDI output to SBLive! card (for powered speaker output...general home use).

This configuration works sorta OK, but I have a devil of a time getting acceptable level balance during and after recording between recorder vocals/guitars and the BandInABox MIDI output.

If anyone has better ideas as to how I can configure these components I would GREATLY appeciate it!

Thank you,

I think that you probably need to figure out a series of questions and pose them one at a time. That congolmerate you've got going, is too much to answer.

Just my $0.02

Krakit,

I'm sure you meant well. However, if I had only posted a very small amount of info I fear I would have ended up having to dole out all that info a piece at a time to get a practical answer. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
