Total newbie here just getting started and I was wondering if I will need any type of preamp if I get the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX Sound Card. Any info/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

howdy, specifically what kind of preamp do you want?(mic, guitar)
what instrument are you going to record with?

hey man,

basically looking for a preamp to record mic and acoustic guitar. Plugging directly into my current soundcard mic is very noisy, thought a preamp and utililizing the line-in would minimize the noise/interference. Was also looking at the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX Sound Card with the external unit, and was wondering if a preamp is necessary with that card. Once again, I'm just starting out so if you have any suggestions on set up, that would be great.

thanks.

ok lets get this straight........your soundcard is horrible.....
get rid of your audigy... if you want to have a good recording take the m-audio audiophile 2496 as a start..... it cost only a little bux than your audigy and has good features in recording....soundblaster are pretty good in playback but when it comes to recording, it sucks....i have one but i switch to m-audio soundcard.... ok take the Shure SM-series mic or Shure Beta series and pair with the M-audio Buddy mic preamp.....any recording software is good....use mic for recording your acoustic guitar.......this is the most descent basic setup ive said ....scram and get rockin :)

Thanks man, I'm going to go with that setup and trash the audigy.
